One common method of extracting compounds from solid substances is through long-term leaching using a solvent. Sin embargo, this method is time-consuming, requires a large amount of solvent, and is not very efficient.
In laboratories, un extractor de grasa (extractor soxhlet) is frequently used for extraction. This extractor utilizes the principle of solvent reflux and siphon, allowing for continuous extraction of solid materials by pure solvent, resulting in solvent conservation and high extraction efficiency.
The solid material is ground before extraction to increase the solid-liquid contact area. The material is placed in a filter paper bag within the extractor, with the lower end connected to a round-bottomed flask containing the leaching solvent, and a reflux condenser connected above. The flask is heated to boil the solvent, which then rises through the connecting pipe into the condenser, where it condenses and drips back into the extractor. This process allows for continuous extraction of the solid substance by the pure solvent, enriching the extracted substance in the flask. Liquid-solid extraction uses a solvent with high solubility for the required components and low solubility for impurities to achieve extraction and separation.
