The Junk mat is constructed with a durable woven fabric on top of a synthetic cushion base, similar to the material used in wet suits. This combination provides a sturdy playing surface that is secured by a black frame, which is both strong and lightweight. The frame features recesses for score sticks to be placed during gameplay.
