YANKEE STADIUM
OPENED: 2009 • CAPACITY: 54,251 • NEIGHBORHOOD: CONCOURSE IN THE BRONX
Grand, glorious, colossal, it rises like a monument over the New York subway tracks that feed in the fans. While this book celebrates ballparks, the home of the Yankees is truly a stadium. Take time to visit Monument Park and stroll around the street-level promenade, where the ceiling stretches into
the Ruthian heavens. Next stop, Yankee Stadium.
COORS FIELD
OPENED: 1995 • CAPACITY: 50,398 • NEIGHBORHOOD: LODO
With the chance to build the NL’s first new ballpark since Dodger Stadium, the Rockies took full advantage of the inspiration of Oriole Park. Coors Field is a modern gem, a brick-covered blend of old-time style and “all mod cons.” When it opened, it helped revitalize the LoDo neighborhood in Denver.
Of course, being a mile high, Coors Field is a place where hitters love to hit and pitchers hate to pitch. The use of a humidor to acclimatize the baseballs used in each game has dampened some of the park effect, but not all. Expect homers and high scores.
